Arthrosis therapy

What is osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disease. It is a degenerative disease of the joints that is characterized by the progressive wear and tear of the cartilage in the joints. This wear and tear leads to pain, restricted movement and inflammation. Knees, hips, fingers and the spine are particularly frequently affected. Osteoarthritis usually develops gradually and can be promoted by factors such as age, obesity, genetic predisposition, injuries/fractures and high joint stress. Around five million people in Germany suffer from osteoarthritis, and the trend is rising.

What therapeutic approaches are there for osteoarthritis?

Peri- and intra-articular infiltrations

Anti-inflammatory substances, hyaluronic acid or PRP (autologous blood) are used to treat painful overload or incorrect load syndromes as well as signs of wear and tear. These are usually injected into the affected joint or the surrounding soft tissue (e.g. joint capsule, ligament structures, bursa, etc.).

Stem cell therapy

Stem cell therapy uses the body's own stem cells, which are specifically injected into the affected joint to stimulate the body's own healing processes. This helps to slow down the breakdown of cartilage in osteoarthritis and alleviate pain. Further information on stem cell therapy can be found here.

Hyaluronic acid injections

Hyaluronic acid is an endogenous product found in cartilage. The administration of synthetic hyaluronic acid can improve the gliding properties of the joint. The cartilage becomes more elastic and resilient again.

ACP / PRP / autologous blood therapy

In autologous blood therapy, certain of the body's own blood cells (mainly platelets) are processed in such a way that they are injected into inflamed tissue or joints. The possible healing effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is based on the growth factors that are released from them and induce a wound healing reaction.

Aids (e.g. bandages / orthoses)

Orthopaedic aids, such as supports or orthoses, can provide temporary or permanent relief for a variety of injuries, inflammations or instabilities. Depending on the situation and necessity, such medical devices can be prescribed and their use and duration of use can be jointly determined.

Kinesio taping

The principle of kinesio taping is based on a relaxing or stabilizing effect on the muscles or joints under the tape, depending on the technique and material used. Kinesio tape has become very popular in recent years, but has been used in orthopaedics since the 1970s. It can be traced back to the Japanese chiropractor Kenzo Kaser.
