Stem cell therapies

Stem cell therapy is an advanced regenerative treatment method that promotes natural healing in the treatment of osteoarthritis and other joint problems. At ROC Aschheim near Munich, we offer you a modern stem cell treatment that aims to improve your quality of life by sustainably alleviating or even completely eliminating joint pain and increasing mobility - without invasive surgery.

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are cells that can develop into various types of tissue. They have the ability to differentiate into different cell types and play a central role in tissue regeneration. For example, when they come into contact with a specific type of tissue, they transform into the same cell type as the cell they are in contact with.

What is stem cell therapy?

Stem cell therapy uses the body's own stem cells, which are specifically injected into the affected joint to regenerate damaged tissue. This treatment stimulates the body's own healing processes and helps to slow down the breakdown of cartilage in osteoarthritis. Studies show that the use of stem cells is a promising alternative to traditional treatments, as it supports tissue healing and improves joint function in the long term. Our patients' experiences also show that stem cell therapy alleviates joint pain.

At ROC, we isolate stem cells in three different ways:

Belly fat

Using the SVF/MFAT procedure , we extract stem cells from abdominal fat

Blood

Stem cells collected via blood draw using the Miracell® SMART M-CELL2 System

ear cartilage

In the AMT procedure, we harvest stem cells from the ear cartilage

The extracted cells are then injected into the affected joint, where they release anti-inflammatory substances and stimulate the tissue to regenerate.

Advantages of stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis

  • Avoidance of operations: Many patients can avoid invasive procedures such as joint prostheses thanks to stem cell therapy.
  • Pain relief: Stem cells reduce the inflammatory processes caused by osteoarthritis, which leads to rapid pain relief.
  • Promote tissue regeneration: They release growth factors that support the reconstruction of cartilage and other joint structures.
  • No side effects: As the therapy uses the body's own cells, side effects that can occur with other treatments (e.g. cortisone) are largely ruled out.
  • Short recovery time: In contrast to surgical procedures, you can quickly return to your normal everyday life after stem cell therapy.

Stem cell therapy procedure

This outpatient treatment begins with a thorough examination in which your individual situation and medical history are taken into account. Once a diagnosis has been made, stem cells are harvested from the ear cartilage, blood or fatty tissue and injected into the affected joint. The procedure is minimally invasive and is usually performed under local anesthesia. Thanks to the precise technique and experience of our doctors, you can expect a quick recovery.

Relieving pain without surgery

By carrying out stem cell therapy on an outpatient basis, important functions can be improved and, in many cases, a long-lasting improvement in symptoms can be achieved. You will be fit for everyday life again shortly after the treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Is stem cell therapy the right treatment for me?

Stem cell therapy is particularly suitable for patients with osteoarthritis or chronic joint pain. If you suffer from pain that limits your quality of life and have tried alternative treatment methods, this therapy could be a promising solution.

As someone with public health insurance, can I receive treatment at the ROC?

Since we are a private practice and, unfortunately, are not contracted with any health insurance plans, if you have public health insurance, you can only receive treatment from us on a self-pay basis.

Is stem cell therapy painful?

Stem cell therapyis generallywell tolerated. Since the procedure at the ROC is minimally invasive and performed under local anesthesia, pain during the procedure is usually minimal.

Depending on the procedure (e.g., extraction fromblood, abdominal fat, or ear cartilage), you may experience abrief sensation of pressureor mild discomfort at the site of extraction. Even after the injection into the affected joint, temporary reactions such asmild pain, a feeling of tightness, or swellingmay occur. These symptoms usually subside after a short time.

The severity of the discomfort depends, among other things, on the area being treated, the extraction method, and your individual pain tolerance. During a personal consultation, we will determine which procedure is the gentlest option for you.

How much does stem cell therapy cost?

Thecost of stem cell therapydepends primarily onthe source of the cellsandthe number of joints being treated.

The following guidelines currently apply at ROC Aschheim: See the cost overview

Actual costs may vary depending on the diagnosis, the scope of treatment, and your individual treatment plan. You will typically receive a clear breakdown of costs following your examination and consultation.

How does stem cell therapy work?

Instem cell therapy, the patient’s own cellsare harvested, processed, and theninjected directly into the affected joint. The goal is to support regenerative processes and have a positive effect on the joint tissue.

Procedure:

  1. Examination and Diagnosis First, we will determine whether stem cell therapy is appropriate for your condition (e.g., osteoarthritis or chronic joint pain).
  2. Isolation of the cells
At ROC, extraction is carried out using one of the following methods, depending on the process:
    • Abdominal fat (SVF)
    • Blood (Miracell®)
    • Ear cartilage (AMT)
  3. Cell Processing
The harvested cells are counted, tested for viability, and prepared for injection in our in-house laboratory.
  4. Injection into the affected joint
The cells are introduced into the joint to be treated using a minimally invasive technique, where they can, among other things, releaseanti-inflammatory signaling moleculesand support regenerative processes.

We provide this treatmenton an outpatient basis; it is designed to help relieve symptoms and improve joint function.

What diseases can be treated with stem cells?

In the field of orthopedics, stem cell therapyis primarily used to treatdegenerative and chronic conditions of the musculoskeletal system—especially when a regenerative, joint-preserving treatment is desired.

Typical applications include, for example:

  • Osteoarthritis(e.g., knee, hip, shoulder, thumb base joint)
  • Chronic joint pain
  • Cartilage damage
  • Irritation and discomfort associated with jointdegeneration

Whether stem cell therapy is appropriate depends not only on the diagnosis, but also onthe stage of the disease, the condition of the joints, and the individual symptoms. For this reason, amedical examination and determination of the appropriate treatmentare always necessary.
