PRT - MRI Accurate and without radiation

PRT stands for:

P = peripheral (means away from the center of the body)

R = radicular (affecting the nerve root -> radix)

T = Therapy

This means an injection into the nerve root of the spinal column.

As already reported in the blog entry "the cross with the cross", it is no secret that many patients suffer from acute or chronic back, leg or neck/shoulder problems

PRT

In rare cases, these can be the result of herniated or bulging discs.

If treatments such as pain medication, local heat, acupuncture, injections, physiotherapy, time and exercise etc. do not bring about the desired improvement, a targeted image-guided injection can be started at the nerve root if the indication is correct.

So what happens in the event of a slipped or bulging disc or a bony narrowing of the spine? As a rule, the nerve roots are irritated.

This can not only cause pain, which usually radiates into the leg or arm, but can also cause paralysis and numbness.

Scarring" after disc surgery can also irritate the nerve root and cause pain.

PRT is a treatment of the affected nerve roots that can be performed on the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. The ROC Aschheim offers you this treatment under MRI control, completely without radiation and under adequate local anesthesia.

How often should this treatment be carried out?

Depending on the symptoms, the therapy is usually repeated 4 to 6 times at intervals of approx. 2, later 4 weeks.

And how exactly is it carried out?

Under MRI guidance, a thin carbon probe is advanced directly to the nerve root in the nerve exit site. In contrast to CT guidance, we do NOT need to administer a contrast agent for the exact localization of the probe during MRI.

Various medications are used for treatment. Short-acting and long-acting local anesthetics (e.g. carbostesin and scandicaine) are used to relieve pain. A naturopathic medication (Traumeel) and/or a locally effective cortisone preparation is injected to inhibit inflammation. In cases of cortisone intolerance, the body's own substances such as blood plasma in the form of ACP can be administered. The probe can then be removed and the therapy is complete.

The therapy takes 15-20 minutes and is largely pain-free.

Is this therapy suitable for me?

This varies from patient to patient and ALWAYS requires individual clarification.

Finally, never forget the 3 principles of back pain:

  • A lot of patience and time
  • Warmth and
  • Movement
